The Christmas Song

One of the most famous Christmas songs is, of course, The Christmas Song. This is one of those songs that just about everyone who's recorded Christmas songs has performed, but probably the most known and loved is by Nat King Cole. The song was co-written by Mel Tormé and Bob Wells. Tormé said that "the song was written during a blistering hot summer. In an effort to 'stay cool by thinking cool', the most-performed Christmas song was born." (Wikipedia)

The Christmas Song - As sung by Nat King Cole

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping at your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe,
Help to make the season bright,
Tiny tots with their eyes all a-glow,
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh,
And ev'ry mother's child is gonna spy,
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I'm offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although it's been said
Many times, Many ways
Merry Christmas to you.

[musical interlude]

And so I'm offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although it's been said
Many times, Many ways
Merry Christmas to you.
