Jeremy

The song Jeremy by Pearl Jam just came on my iPod. I've heard it a thousand times. It's a somewhat disturbing song and I always wondered what it was really talking about. It's fairly obvious from the lyrics and video that it's about a young boy who's in a dysfunctional family (who isn't??) and has trouble at school as well, and ultimately commits suicide. Sadly it's based on a true story.

Today I decided to look it up and found this article: Jeremy. This helped me really understand the song, but the following paragraph gave me some insight into the motivation and message behind it:
“It came from a small paragraph in a paper,” Eddie Vedder stated, on the topic of the successful video. He added some perspective, too, “which means you kill yourself and you make a big old sacrifice and try to get your revenge. That all you’re gonna end up with is a paragraph in a newspaper. Sixty-three degrees and cloudy in a suburban neighborhood. That’s the beginning of the video and [it's] the same thing in the end, it does nothing… nothing changes. The world goes on and you’re gone. The best revenge is to live on and prove yourself. Be stronger than those people. And then you can come back.”
Wow. Who woulda thought such a powerful message would be put out by Pearl Jam. I just wish they had been more vocal about the message of the song at the time (it came out in 1992). Maybe they did and I just missed it since I wasn't really into that kind of music at the time.

Below are the video and lyrics. Disclaimer: This song and video, as mentioned above, are somewhat disturbing and it contains some profanity.

Jeremy - Pearl Jam
At home
Drawing pictures
Of mountain tops
With him on top
Lemon yellow sun
Arms raised in a V
The dead lay in pools of maroon below
Daddy didn't give attention
To the fact that mommy didn't care
King Jeremy the wicked
Ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today

Clearly I remember
Pickin' on the boy
Seemed a harmless little fuck
Oh, but we unleashed a lion
Gnashed his teeth
And bit the recess lady's breast
How could I forget
He hit me with a surprise left
My jaw left hurtin
Oh, dropped wide open
Just like the day
Like the day I heard

Daddy didn't give affection
And the boy was something mommy wouldn't wear
King Jeremy the wicked
Ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today

Try to forget this... (try to forget this)
Try to erase this... (try to erase this)
From the blackboard

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today

Burnin' up Don't know just how far that I can go (Just how far I go) Soon be home Only just 4 downs to go I can make it I know I can You broke the boy in me But you won't break the man (CHORUS) I can see a new horizon blazin on the Mile High I'll be where the eagle's Flyin' higher and higher Gonna be your man in motion All I needs my Broncos team Take me where my future's lyin' Tim Tebows Fire I can climb the highest mountain These Broncos cant be beat I can feel St Elmo’s Fire burnin' in me Burnin' in me Just once in his life A man has his time And my time is now And I'm comin' alive I can hear the music playin' I can see the banners fly Feel like a man again I’ll hold my head high Gonna be a man in motion These broncos can’t be beat Take me where my future's lyin' Tim Tebow’s fire (CHORUS) I can climb the highest mountain Cross the wildest sea I can feel St. Elmo's Fire burnin' in me Burnin' Burnin' in me I can feel it burnin' Oooh, burnin' inside of me

Conversation between God and Jesus....

Find Your Way Back - Foolish Things
http://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/foolish-things/id48788238

It's going to crush you
inside and out,
It's going to break you, my Son,
But Jesus the choice is yours
because I know
the sin is theirs to pay,
the debt is theirs to owe,

But we can make a way,
close the gap their sin has made,
your blood can right their wrongs,
and we can sing our song to call them...

Find your way back to me,
I know your faults, but I, I was pierced so you'd be healed,
Turn your heart back to me,
I paid the cost 'cause I, I couldn't change the way I feel

Can this cup be taken?
Dad I see,
If I take their sins upon myself
you'll turn your back on me,
I know they're guilty,
but I love them too,
If my death can build a bridge for them
I'll bring them back to you,
and we'll sing it...

Find your way back to me,
I know your faults, but I, I was pierced so you'd be healed,
Turn your heart back to me,
I paid the cost 'cause I couldn't change the way I feel

So I made a way,
Closed the gap your sin had made,
The blood can right your wrongs,
Would you listen to the song we're singing...

Find your way back to me,
I know your faults, but I, I was pierced so you'd be healed,
Turn your heart back to me,
I paid the cost 'cause I couldn't change the way I feel, yeah

Turn your heart back to me,
I paid the cost 'cause I couldn't change the way I feel, yeah.

6 Days vs. 2000+ Years

Have you ever thought of it like this before?

"I look around at the world and I see all the beauty that God made, I see the forests and the trees and all the things. And it says in the Bible that He made them in 6 days, and I don't know if they were literal 6 days or not. Scientists would say no. Some theologians would say yes. It doesn't matter to me. But I know that Jesus Christ has been preparing a home for me and for some of you for 2000 years. and if this world took 6 days and that home took 2000 years, hey man this is living in a garbage can compared to what's going on up there." ~Keith Green

I Can't Wait To Get To Heaven - Keith Green
Seaside sunset, silver linings round the clouds,
Birds fly, singing, making such a joyful sound.
Thoughts of heaven somehow seem to fill my mind,
But I can't even imagine, what it is I'm gonna find.

I can't wait to get to Heaven, when you'll wipe away all my fears.
In six days you created everything,
but you've been working on Heaven two thousand years.

Deep green forests, mountains reaching for the sky,
Grasslands and deserts, your creation fills my eyes.

Thank you, thank you Jesus, though this beauty is just a taste,
Of all your, all your glory I'll see when I pass through those gates.

I can't wait to get to Heaven, when you'll wipe away all my fears.
In six days you created everything,
but you've been working on Heaven two thousand years.

I can't wait to get to Heaven, when you'll wipe away all my fears.
In six days you created all of the world,
But you've been working on Heaven,

You've been working on heaven, Holy Spirit,
You've been working on Heaven, two thousand years.

Osama Bin Laden is dead.

REMEMBER!!

Courtesy Of The Red White And Blue - Toby Keith
American girls and American guys, will always stand up and salute.
We'll always recognize, when we see ol' glory flying,
There's a lot of men dead,
So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our heads.

My daddy served in the army where he lost his right eye,
But he flew a flag out in our yard 'til the day that he died.
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me.
To grow up and live happy in the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love is fallin' under attack.
A mighty sucker-punch came flying in from somewhere in the back.
Soon as we could see clearly through our big black eye,
Man, we lit up your world like the fourth of July.

Hey, Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list,
And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist.
And the eagle will fly and it's gonna be hell,
When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell.
And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you.
Ah, brought to you, courtesy of the Red White And Blue!

Oh, justice will be served and the battle will rage:
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage.
An' you'll be sorry that you messed with the U.S. of A.
'Cos we'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way.

Oh, oh.
Of the red, white and blue.
Oh, hey, oh.
Of my Red, White and Blue.

Easter

Easter - Raspberry Jam

Rise, heart, thy Lord is risen. Sing His praise
Without delays,
Who takes thee by the hand, that thou likewise
With Him may'st rise:
That, as His death calcined thee to dust,
His life may make thee gold, and, much more, just.

Awake, my lute, and struggle for thy part
With all thy art,
The Cross taught all wood to resound His name
Who bore the same.
His stretched sinews taught all strings what key
Is best to celebrate this most high day.

Consort, both heart and lute, and twist a song
Pleasant and long;
Or, since all music is but three parts vied
And multiplied
Oh let thy blessed Spirit bear a part,
And make up our defects with His sweet art.
